The Music Industry is Evolving to Compete with Free Downloads and Piracy

The Music Industry Fights Back but Not in the Way That you Think They Do New York, NY (PRWEB) February 19, 2005 -- (NAMC) - With illegal downloading of music from the Internet becoming more common, the music industry had to come out with a way to combat it, but not in the way that you may think. There are music labels that are filing lawsuits for illegal downloading of their music but that isn’t going to solve the problem. They can force companies like Napster to shut down, but again that isn’t going to solve the problem. The music industry has begun to realize this and is starting to evolve in regards to the way they distribute their music. It seems that the music industry, for the moment, has discovered a way to reap the rewards from the artist they represent in the face of piracy and downloads. Music labels are beginning to find big value in a format known as “DualDisc”. In basic terms it’s a DVD CD combination, the music is on one side while the music video or footage is on the flip side. This is an interesting concept as it creates more value for the music and gives the consumer a reason to actually buy the music as opposed to just downloading it from the Internet. One of the first “DualDisc” to be available was from the power-pop band from Montreal “Simple Plan”, they incorporated behind the scenes footage on the “DualDisc” entitled “Still Not Getting Any”. Other new releases have started to follow suit, so expect to see quite a few “DualDisc” releases this upcoming spring. This is the music industry’s answer at this point to the piracy plague but as the technology gets more advanced is as the music industry must continue to create new ways to protect their revenue stream. Does this mean higher prices for the music that you listen to? Perhaps, but, if the consumer is getting more for their money then it becomes worth the price of the “DualDisc”. You can find more information on “DualDisc” by going to www.dualdisc.com.
