What better time to visit Vienna that on the occasion of Mozart's 250th birthday celebrations. The year 2006 has been branded as Vienna Mozart Year to mark the event. Music lovers swear by this musical genius and Vienna is honoring his life, his work and his unforgettable music the entire year, with a rich and varied calendar of events. Born as Joannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart on January 27, 1756 December 5, 1791, the world-famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart made Vienna his home for ten years.
During the decade spent in Vienna, this beautiful city inspired Mozart to compose some of his most famous masterpieces, Symphony No. 41 being one of these. Mozart has close to about 625 musical works to his credit during his short life span of 35 years.
Vienna provides an ideal setting for a romantic get-away. It also provides excellent opportunities for young artists in the field of theatre, opera and concert.
Vienna Mozart Year 2006 promises to be a treat for music lovers and the programs lined up during the festivities include 100 projects and activities, such as innovative classical music projects. The total budget set for Euro 20 million. Around 20 churches throughout the city of Vienna will be participating in the events.
Two must visit places during Vienna Mozart Year 2006 are Haus der Musik or the House of Music and Mozarthaus Vienna (Mozart's House in Vienna). As both are located in the centre of Vienna near St Stephen's Cathedral, and are open to visitors everyday. Haus der Musik is open from 10:00am to 10:00pm and Mozarthaus Vienna is open from 10:00am to 8:00pm, both are open daily.
Even though, during his years in Vienna, Mozart resided in several apartments and houses, Mozarthaus Vienna is the only one that has survived. This is located at Domgasse No .5 and was a luxury apartment with four large and two smaller rooms. Mozarthaus Vienna has been refurbished as one of the Vienna Mozart Year 2006 project.
Vienna has more to offer than just the Vienna State Opera. Vienna has some of the largest and world famous concert hall to boast. The latest pop and rock music is as much a part of Vienna lifestyle as classical music. Fashionable clubs, hip cafes and restaurants, stylish shops and splendid architecture, all of these add just the right bit of spice to your holiday.
